We at McMurter Home Centre recommend that you build your next home with an Insulated Concrete Form system (ICF). A house built using an ICF is quicker and easier to build and requires less people to do the job.
What is an Insulated Concrete Form?
An ICF consists of a concrete wall with polystyrene foam panels securely attached to both sides. This gives your house the strength of a concrete wall with superior insulating to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
What are the benefits if an ICF?
As stated previously your house will have the strength of a concrete wall and the polystyrene will keep you house at the temperature you want. The ICF system acts a house sized styrofoam cooler. The superior insulating of an ICF means that it cost less to keep your house at a consistent temperature which will save you money on your energy bill. Another great benefit of an ICF house is that the outside noise level is drastically reduced if not eliminated.
What do I do after the ICF is built?
If you use an ICF for your whole house then, After the walls are poured and dried, the rafters for the roof can be installed on top of the ICF. Drywall, and siding can be installed directly on the ICF with no need to prepare because the ICF has plastic inserts built into the panels to fasten them to.
If you are not using an ICF for the whole house then the traditional wood frame house can be placed on top of the ICF to complete the house.
What ICF do we use?
At McMurter Home Centre we use the Eco-Block ® Insulating Concrete Form system. Click the logo below to view our information on this ICF.
